Funding Options

Queensland State Government User Choice Funding

Funding is available from the Queensland Government. Eligibility criteria apply and as a minimum you are:

  • A Queensland resident
  • An Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • Do not hold two or more qualifications funded under the User Choice 2017-20 Program

Please Note: There is a Student Co-Contribution Fee  (currently set at $1.60 per nominal hour) which is based on the total nominal hours of each qualification. This varies from between $500 and $1,400 per qualification depending on the electives chosen. Employers may choose to cover this cost on behalf of their employees.

To support their training, the User Choice program pays a portion of the training and assessment costs. However, students are also required to pay a co-contribution fee of $1.60 for each nominal hour of training they undertake. This fee is calculated at the end of each unit of competency/module. Although the co-contribution fee can be paid by the student’s employer or another third party, the training provider cannot waive or cover it.

One of the program’s significant benefits is that it allows apprentices, trainees, and their employers to have more flexibility in selecting a training provider that best suits their needs. They can negotiate the type of training required to meet their specific needs.

What Can We Deliver?

The course included under the User Choice Program are:

RII30820 Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations

RII30920 Certificate III in Civil Construction (Bridge Construction and Maintenance)

RII30920 Certificate III in Civil Construction (Pipe Laying)

RII30920 Certificate III in Civil Construction (Road Construction and Maintenance)

More information about the User Choice Program can be found here, (https://desbt.qld.gov.au/training) and about apprenticeships and traineeships here. (https://www.qld.gov.au/education/apprenticeships/about/get-started/requirements)

What Else do I Need to Know?

Under the User Choice program, apprentices and trainees can receive a maximum of two government funding contributions. However, to be eligible for a second funding contribution, the completed first qualification must have a lower priority ranking than the second qualification. Furthermore, apprentices and trainees are restricted to receiving only one government contribution for a User Choice funded qualification at any given time. This means that they cannot receive funding for two apprenticeships or traineeships simultaneously. It’s important to note that receiving government funding for a course may affect your eligibility for future funding claims. Therefore, please consider this before proceeding with funding. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us.

Employer Federal Government Incentive
